What Exactly Are Digital Assets?
Digital assets are any format of data that is stored on computers. Today there are many examples of digital assets that we are using daily, for example, Apps, Notes, Streaming Music, Websites, Social media profiles, Videos, and so on.
Some of these digital assets are very valuable and can make their owner’s high amounts of revenue and profit.
How do Digital Assets make money?
Let’s take a blog website for this example, we can use our articles to drive traffic to our blog and get visitors that are interested in our niche.
Let’s say we write about fishing as a hobby. Most people who will arrive at our website will be interested in fishing, and in some of our articles, we will be able to link the visitors to buy fishing equipment we recommend and get a commission. We can also offer fishing lessons or courses, and that can help others benefit from our knowledge.
Another example is if we know how to create great excel sheets or Notion Templates, we can bundle them up and sell them online.
There are also digital assets that are more passive like buying Crypto, NFT’s, or land in the metaverse. These are assets that work more like traditional assets like stocks or real estate.
Let’s expand on each digital asset
1. Cryptocurrencies
Cryptocurrencies are one of the most exciting and vibrant classes of assets to emerge in the last 13 years. They are revolutionizing and disrupting almost every industry from:
- Traditional Finance
- Art Industry
- Gold Industry
- Cell phones
- Banks
- Internet Industry
- Online Payments
- Real Estate
- Music Industry
- Online Communities
There are plenty of opportunities as this industry is still in its diapers and you are still Very Early if you are reading this in 2022.

2. Websites
Many people claim that websites are dead and you can’t earn money with websites anymore. That can’t be further from the truth. Websites are still alive and kicking, they allow you to own your data, create your design that represents your brand, and also sell in any way you deem appropriate.
There are many types of websites:
- Business Websites
- Ecommerce Websites
- Review websites
- Blog Websites
- News Websites
- Portfolio Websites
- Platforms
They all have a unique way to monetize, eventually, it is down to your skills and preferences on which direction you should choose for your website.
If you have a skill or a topic you can write about a lot, there is great value in setting up your blog and sharing your knowledge. It will be able to bring you many potential customers in your niche.
3. Newsletters
Owning an online newsletter is a digital asset by itself. Your newsletter can be as simple as having an email list and messaging your list every few days or weeks.
Through your Newsletter, you can share your insights regarding a topic, general news, and tips\advice for your readers.
There is much value to be created from running a newsletter, whether you are a reader or a writer in it. If you own a newsletter you can share your knowledge and also advertise your services\other services. If you are a reader you can learn many interesting ideas daily.
4. Domain Name
Owning a domain name can be considered as having an online asset. You can own your name as a domain, and if you have a sense for future names that will be in demand you can buy it and resell it in the future.
You can search and buy domains here: Namecheap – great domain registrar with good prices and customer service.
5. NFT’s
NFTs are one of the hottest topics lately in the crypto sphere. They are non-fungible tokens that allow you to hold a specific, one-of-a-kind asset on the blockchain. NFT’s can be anything from simple photos, videos, tweets, music, community memberships, and even houses. The unique thing about NFT is they allow you to be the owner of a digital asset in a clear way through the blockchain. That way you can easily validate who is the real owner of the piece through the blockchain registry.
The technology of NFT is what makes it so powerful. I believe it will keep expanding and growing as innovation arrives with the Metaverse. NFT’s Explained here.
6. Land in the Metaverse
Tied to the last point, we are now approaching the Metaverse arrival with giant steps. Big companies like Apple, Nvidia, and Facebook, which even changed its name to Meta, announced their plans to build the metaverse.
This is a huge project that is supposed to connect our reality to the digital world in a much more advanced way than today and make the whole experience very immersive.
That means that we will be seeing many huge companies and businesses building applications and creations on the metaverse as well.
Companies will probably have the ability to advertise and build their business in the Metaverse as well. People will be able to buy real estate and rent it to those companies, or display their goods in the Metaverse.
Big celebs like Snoop Dog have already bought land in the Metaverse, in a Crypto project called Decentraland.
The Metaverse will have tons of opportunities to explore, some of them which we can’t even imagine right now. This is one of the hottest topics to consider in the following years and is assumed to be one of the biggest opportunities of the decade, to say the least.
I would keep an eye both for crypto projects that are involved in the metaverse. You can also look for companies that are building the Metaverse itself like Nvidia, Google, Meta(Facebook), Apple, and so on.
7. Social Media profile
Believe it or not, a social media profile is a great asset to have. If you develop a social media profile as a brand, you will be able to monetize it and start making money just from being active and providing content daily.
Look at successful creators in these platforms:
- Youtube
- Tiktok
Most of them are creating engaging content, that has many views and likes. They are generating a high amount of traffic to their pages and that allows them to also start promoting their products and other companies’ products. That way they are getting paid for their effort and they can create content full time. They can also just funnel the traffic into their business and make sales this way.
If you love writing, and you have a passion for words then the best platform for you would be Twitter. The engagement on Twitter is high and it’s fairly easy to start growing on the platform.

8. Ebooks
Writing and creating Ebooks is one of the best digital assets you can own and distribute. The cost of producing a high-quality ebook is relatively low, and you can scale it to endless copies and people.
You can start writing your ebook anywhere and package it with the minimal use of a word\google docs application.
After that, you can distribute it using Gumroad, and start selling easily without any technical knowledge or hassle.
9. Graphics
Designing graphics of any kind is the art of creating beautiful and representable digital assets. That could be designing websites, logos, banners, infographics, and more.
Designing great graphics requires an eye for aesthetics and art while being able to convey a strong message in a short time.
If you can do that, there are many ways you can use this skill to offer your services to interested customers and make more money.
10. Research papers
If you are a proficient researcher, you can start creating research papers on certain topics. Maybe you are very knowledgeable in the stock market, or finance. If that’s the case, you can start by creating reports on a certain topic.
Doing so will allow you to sell your reports if they are valuable to your target audience.
In the crypto world, many individual report writers sell in-depth reports on the markets and certain projects.
You can even be able to find individual customers who are interested in your services and research a topic they asked for in a custom request.
One way to start doing these reports is to share value for free on Social Media platforms, like Twitter, and then see the reactions. If your audience is receptive to this you will be able to start creating more in-depth research papers and sell them to willing customers.
11. Excel Sheets
Building good excel sheets takes lots of time, especially if you’re designing them for others to use effortlessly.
If you have a talent for creating structured excel sheets, and you can produce great ideas for new structures – you can start creating excel templates and sell them as an extra income.
The more specific your niche for this type of skill, the easier it is to sell your excel sheet template.
12. Notion Templates
Very similarly to the last point. If you can create great notion templates and deliver high value through your unique systems – you will be able to sell those templates.
There’s high demand for readymade templates in the productivity, fitness, and money management spaces. Find an idea worth pursuing and build around.
13. Music
Those who are talented with producing music can nowadays sell beats online that will help others create music themselves with it.
Many platforms allow you to sell your music on them and reach a high number of artists to make your first sales.
As you grow and produce great beats, you can start marketing yourself on social media and your website and sell directly to your audience.
14. Video content\courses
Last but not least, video content is one of the best ways to create, promote, and sell in the digital age. It allows you to break the barriers of the screen and talk directly to your audience.
That way your audience can feel a deeper connection to you and allow you to build a better and stronger community. Podcasts allow almost the same impact.
If you have a skill or some knowledge to share, start doing so on the internet by recording videos and uploading them to Youtube. Over time you will be able to find your unique voice and build around it.
This will help you validate your ideas and create a paid video course going deeper into what you teach your audience.
To sum it up
Digital assets are all around us and they are probably not going away anytime soon. A great framework to build around is to try thinking of ways you can enhance your life, and what problems you would want to solve for yourself.
Once you find something that you are both passionate about and is painful for you than you know you hit a great idea to start pursuing.
